UK ‘most popular destination in the world’ for commercial property investment
A new global commercial property barometer suggests that the UK is currently the most attractive investment destination in the world when it comes to commercial real estate.
Property body BrickVest’s regular surveys – which assess each nation on investment popularity based on a sample of 3,000 international investors – have long ranked Germany as the most attractive destination for commercial real estate investment.
But the property platform’s latest survey suggests that investment in Germany experienced a sharp decline towards the end of last year – down from 34 per cent to just 23 per cent quarter-on-quarter in the last three months of the year (Q4).
Meanwhile, investment in UK commercial property soared from 27 per cent to 29 per cent during the same period, pushing Britain up to the top spot.
The report found that while the City of London remained a popular investment destination, “secondary cities” such as Birmingham and Manchester also increased in popularity among investors during the period studied.
Commenting on the research, Emmanuel Lumineau, CEO at BrickVest, said that the investment market had shown considerable resilience “against a backdrop of change and uncertainty in the wider world.”
He said: “Our latest barometer reveals that Germany is no longer the favoured destination for commercial real estate investment, contrary to its position in Q3 2017. Rather, the UK has once again become the most popular region for our investors.”
